Ambitions...
As a small kid, I remember travelling with my mom to the local grocery stores. While mom took care of all the groceries, I just stared at the jars and jars of candies lying there. I always thought then, "What a life, this shop-keeper has...he can eat as many candies as he can, he has a variety to choose from and he doesnt have to pay for it" It was then that I decided, I am gonna be a shop-keeper when I grow up.
My parents took me to a circus once and I was in awe all the time. Although, I must admit now, that I was too small to understand some of the jokes that the joker told, but everyone was laughing and I joined in. Isn't it a fun job. Laugh all the time, no worries, make fun of others and they can't even hit you. Tie a tail to an unknown guy, laugh at him and no one will get back at you. It's fun all the way and thats what you are looking for. A fun job... which I interpreted then as a 'funny' job. Joker I will be, when I grow up.
Time passed by and like every Indian kid, I developed an interest in cricket. It was around the same time, that a little kid with curly hairs, started playing for India and smashed seasoned pakistani bowlers all over the stadium while the crowd went in frenzy. I was little, I had curly hairs... I can be the next Sachin Tendulkar I thought. It was then that I decided, do heck with the jokes, I am gonna be a cricket star when I grow up.
In India, studies means no time to play and the cricketing dreams vanished in thin air and air it was that gave me my next ambition. Was travelling for the first time in a plane. "Whoa, what a life this pilot has!!! You get to drive (??) a plane and travel different places. Planes were something I always liked to toy with and although the pilot was doing much much more than toying with this plane, even he would have started with a toy plane in his childhood. I had it in me to be a pilot and pilot will it be.
Time flew by and so did my dreams of becoming a pilot. Then came a show on TV, called 'KHANA KHAZANA' and for the first time, everone felt that even guys can cook good food. My mom always used to kick me out of the kitchen as I always meddled around with things when she was cooking. I loved cooking then and had never thought of being a chef. This show changed it all. I decided to be a chef in a 5-star hotel and make some lovely dishes.
...and so it went. thousands of different ambitions...
hazaaron khwahishen aisi, ki har khwahish par dam nikle...
bahut nikle mere armaan, lekin phir bhi kam nikle
...and here I am, a Computer Engineer eating candies from the vending machine, cracking some really bad PJ's, watching cricket scores on the internet having flown to a place that doesnt show live cricket and eating food from the hotel.
I have learnt:
- candies aren't that good for health.
- being a joker, doesn't mean that you are happy.
- playing cricket is tough, I will stick to watching it.
- Although you travel being a pilot, you stay away from your family all the time.
- cooking food once in a while is fun. Cooking food daily, is boring.
I am a programmer... I write code :)

Dreaming permits each and every one of us to be quietly and safely insane every night of our lives. ~William Dement
Dreams are answers to questions we haven't yet figured out how to ask. And the day we can question, only answer to that question we'll get is 'reality'. But I guess, we gotta live with it. After all, Reality is the beginning not the end.

bachpan mein kya kya sapne dekhte the hum...in fact abhi bhi!
liked these 2...
"being a joker, doesn't mean that you are happy."...we realise this only when we r at this stage of life....
and
"Cooking food daily, is boring"...mummy zindagi bhar puch puch ke thak gayi, ki kya khana banaun tumhare liye, we never realised the importance of that effort that strongly as we do now...
Awesome thought ... I think we feel the same way even now ... Grass is always greener on the other side

at least you could give ur ex-roomies partial credit for allowing you to live one of your dreams - that of cooking good food :-)
hmm..jokes apart (see even i could be a joker) i guess it has happened to everyone, so the best thing to do is to enjoy your dreams for 8 hours every day, and then get up and go to work :-(
@praveer: very true
@praveer: thanks, for considering the food i cooked as "good" food :)
and your 2nd line can be interpreted as, enjoy your dreams for 8 hours every day, and then "get back to reality" ;)
or as enjoy ur dreams for 8 hrs everyday and then go home from work ;)
u write code for the shopkeeper, dont u?
@siddharth: actually, i write it for the vending m/c, so that i get some free stuff. :)
